York Region ensures an environmentally responsible mindset is applied to Regional initiatives and activities.
The Result
For 2023, York Region was designated as one of Canada’s Best Workplaces for Commuters and is among a select group of organizations recognized for offering exceptional employee commuter benefits. This designation applies to three worksites, covering more than 2,500 employees. York Region offers several employee commuter benefits and support initiatives, including:
- Employee transit subsidy;
- Telework program;
- Carpool ride matching program;
- Emergency Ride Home assistance for sustainable commuters.
York Region’s Transportation Master Plan serves as a guide for planning, building, operating and maintaining a connected transportation network to the year 2051, which includes encouraging all types of travel, providing a resilient and adaptable system and enhancing partnerships.
York Region’s “Let’s Make the Shift” Sustainable Mobility Plan showcases transportation demand management programming and active transportation infrastructure initiatives along with future directions. These programs support sustainable transportation and puts the Region at the forefront in offering alternative modes of transportation for commuting solutions.
