Communauto
The newest carshare company in Ontario, Communauto offers two programs to get you from point A to B. FLEX is their one-way trip program available in Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton, and requires no reservation. Just select the car you want and pick it up within 30 minutes. You also don’t have to return the car to the same station you found it if you are within the Communauto FLEX zone. This allows you to enjoy the privilege of parking in resident-only areas. Alternatively, Communauto’s round-trip service is available throughout Ontario. Users are required to book a reservation in advance and must pick up/drop off the vehicle from the same location. For more information, visit their round-trip FAQ page.
For both programs, rates start at $0.45 per minute, $15.50 per hour, or $60 per day. Your first 100km per trip, along with gas and car insurance, are included. To book your trip, download the Communauto app.
Enterprise CarShare
Enterprise CarShare has services across Toronto, Mississauga, and Scarborough. It offers 4 membership plans:
- Basic
- Basic Monthly
- Standard Monthly
- Standard Monthly with Value.
The Basic plan has no membership fee, with rates starting at $7.40 per hour or $70.40 per day (first 100km per trip included). Additionally, the cost of fuel, car insurance, and roadside assistance are included with every plan.
Enterprise CarShare also offers a variety of services for businesses who are looking to provide their employees with vehicles for company-related travel. These options can be a great alternative to fleet vehicles or employees having to use their own cars. Zipcar
Along with being the oldest carshare provider in Toronto, Zipcar operates in more than 500 cities and towns, making it a great option for frequent travelers. Membership costs $9 per month (or $90 per year through their annual membership) with driving rates varying based on location, time, and vehicle. Turo
Often referred to as the Airbnb of cars, Turo is a peer-to-peer car rental service. You can choose from hundreds of models across the city and even have the car delivered to you if needed. There are no membership fees and cars can be rented by the day, week or month.
If you have a car, you might want to consider making some extra cash by renting it to others when you’re not using it.
